I keep my global.mpt file on a network drive that is always mapped when I log
onto any computer in my company. I change my global file frequently, so I do
not want to maintain multiple copies of my global file. If on every computer
that I log onto, I copy a shortcut to winproj.exe specifying to start in the
folder where my global file is stored, I can start Project using my global
file by using the shortcut. If I forget to use the shortcut and double-click
on a Project file name, the standard global file is started.
How can I create an environment that does not impact other users of
conference room computers that allows me to double-click on a file name and
use my customized global file?
I have tried placing a shortcut to my global file in C:\Documents and
Settings\{my ID}\Application Data\Microsoft\MS Project\11\1033, but when I
double-click a Project file, Project ignores the shortcut, opens the standard
global and stores a copy under my local profile.
