Why can I download the VBA converter pack for Office 2007 ? I tried to run an
old Excel file which requires me to add the ODBC addin. But without the VBA
converter, the ODBC addin does not work.

Thanks for any help.

Office 2007 still uses VBA so I'm not sure what you are referring to. Do you
mean xlodbc.xla? If so, what leads you to think you need a VBA converter?
Are you using a Mac perhaps? How old is the file? I.e, what's the file type?

We are using that Excel file on Office 2003. When I tried to addin the ODBC,
Excel 2007 tells me that I need the "VBA converter". I had loaded the Office
2007 Enterprise version using the MSDN development set and I had looked at
the Shared options in the Office install that the VBA application was
installed. I even downloaded the Office Compatibility pack for 2007 and
installed that too. But none works. I am still not able to run the macro.

I don't think the issue is actually VBA. I think it's due to the old Excel
file. Is it pre Excel 97? I.e. Excel 5 or Excel 97. Make a copy of the
workbook then open the copy in Excel. Click the Office Button, then click
Save As, and check the Save As Type. If it's not Excel 97-2003 then first
try saving it as Excel 97-2003 and see if that works. If not then if you
have access to Excel 2003 you might want to try opening the file in that
version and upgrading the file to Excel 2003.

If none of this works then you might try posting in one of the Excel
newsgroups. Perhaps someone there has encountered this issue before. Note
that when you post tell them exactly what you just told me in your latest
reply: that you installed the ODBC add-in and when you try to run a macro in
an old Excel workbook you encounter a message that states you need the VBA
converter.

Hi Beth:
I don't think that it has anything to do with my Excel file for two
reasons. First, it was created using Office 2003. Second, even if I don't
load in any excel fil but just open the Excel program with a blank workbook
and try to addin the ODBC addin, it will still tell me that I need the VBA
converter.
I will take your advice and post my problem with the Excel group. Thanks
for your suggestion.

Dan
