Version Problems

Hi

I have Word 2003 installed (I use VB.NET) and the users have a variety of
other versions and the users experience different problems. Can it be
related to the version and what solution exist? Does it support to work
properly?

Thank you,
Shmuel

If you are designing add-ins or other programs (using VB.NET or any other
language) that have to work with multiple versions of Word, then you should
develop using the oldest version of Word, and do compatibility testing with
the newer versions.

If you try to develop with the newest version, you are very likely to run
into problems with older versions not having some feature or other that you
rely on.

You buy a copy of the older version.

You also get a copy of VirtualPC, set up a virtual machine and load the old
version onto that, so that the old version doesn't interfere with your
Office 2003 on your main machine. On my PC I have VMs set up for every
version of Office from 97 onwards, for precisely this reason.

Whether you design using the oldest or newest, if you plan to support
multiple versions of Office, you stand no chance at all of being able either
to test adequately or to reproduce bugs reported by customers unless you
have available *all* the versions of Office that you plan to support.
