I HAVE A WINDOWS MEDIA FILE I WANT TO PLAY IN THE BACKGROUND . . . IT SHOWS
UP EITHER AS A STILL SHOT OR A WHITE SCREEN . . . I DOWNLOADED IT FROM
ANIMATION FACTORY. WHAT'S UP ? DO I NEED SOME SPECIAL PLUG-IN OR SOMETHING ?

Probably the path length is too long. Try creating a test folder in C:\.
Movie the ppt file and movie into the test folder.
Then, open ppt file and re-insert the movie. Does it work this time round?
Also, some troubleshooting here to tackle movie problem:

What tohlz said.

But also, video won't play underneath other objects -- it always plays on
the top "layer." Just something to be aware of, in case you intend to put
text or other objects on top of the video.

And finally, please don't type in all caps. It implies shouting.

Hello

if you went to the format menu and background, picture to add a video file
to your background, you should know that it wont work, this is only for
pictures.

and like the first responder said videos are always on the top. there is
currently no support for powerpoint to have videos in the background, apart
from third party programs.
