Viewing a .PUB file

M

MValentine

I need to view a Publisher file that a client is emailing
to me on a weekly basis. I do not have Publisher. Is their
an application which will allow me to "view only" a
Publisher file. I am not needing the edit or creation
capabilities. I am trying to avoid having to purchase a
copy of Publisher.

Thanks

Have your client send it as a PDF file. There is no viewer available for Publisher.

No, sorry, there isn't. But there are a few options - provided you only need
to read and not edit the file.

(1) Ask your client to send you the file as a .pdf. If the client doesn't
have Acrobat, you can tell him to download PrimoPDF, a free program. there
are other programs as well but I rather like the price of Primo.

(2) I've heard you can request a trial copy of Pub 2003 and after the trial
time runs out it acts as a viewer. (I do not know anyone who has tried this
so I can't guarantee it will work.)

(3) Ask the client to use a program you already have.

(4) Buy Publisher - it's a really great program!

Regardless of what you do, I'll suggest both you and your client read
http://www.microsoft.com/office/previous/xp/columns/column16.asp. It says it
applies to Pub 2002 but it also applies to 2003 as well.

Thank you for the response. I have already looked at
having the file exported in another format. However I am
trying to add as little work as possible to the party who
is sending the file. Not very computer knowledgeable.
I do not wish to purchase Publisher. I am already using a
publishing application, Serif PagePlus, which I am very
satisfied with.

Thanks Again

Looks like Primo is going to be the way to go. It's a hefty download (10 MB)
but well worth the investment in time.

Seems almost all the options have been given.

Here's one more.

The person sending you the file, if a single page have them copy it,
paste into MS Paint and send a jpg file.

Why not save as a jpeg from within Publisher?

Some of ol folks are still using Pub 2000 and earlier and don't have
that luxury.

Good point and one I realised when I checked our version at work (been using
2002/3 so long I'd forgotten that 2000 and earlier didn't have that option!)

And you lot really need to join the 21st century and upgrade to 2002 at
least - you're not even running Windows XP, are you Don? ;o)

And a real irritant is buying an operating system that may lead to
asking permission to reinstall it some Sunday morning at 2 AM and
getting Sabu who is a half a page ahead of you in some manual.

That only occurs if you make major hardware changes, and even that leads to
a simple phone call to the activation center (I have used phone activation -
very painless - but I haven't tried talking to the support personnel there
as it was entirely automated - if the activation fails, you are transferred
to an operator, but that has never been necessary to me so I can't rate the
personnel)
I have never had to reactivate Windows on any machine apart from one where I
reinstalled Windows with a new product key.
