In my 2007 project plan, i find several resouces over allocated. I'm having
difficulties figuring out where that resource is overallocated. there must be
a simple way to view the timeline gantt and see exactly where they are
overallocated.

can someone please suggest a few views and approaches to optimizing the
resouce allocations? thansk.

Here's an idea. Try the following:

1. Apply the Resource Usage view.
2. Click Window - Split.
3. Click anywhere in the bottom pane and then click View - Gantt Chart.

The first three steps give you a "split screen" view with the Resource Usage
view in the top pane and the Gantt Chart in the bottom pane. If you select
any name in the top pane, notice you see the tasks and Gantt bars for that
resource in the bottom pane.

4. Click View - Toolbars - Resource Management.
5. On the Resource Management toolbar, click the Go To Next Overallocation
button.

Using this button allows you to navigate from overallocation to
overallocation across the project. The Gantt Chart in the lower pane shows
the tasks on which the overallocated resource is assigned. Using the
Resource Usage view, you can also level overallocated resources individually
or in small groups. Hope this helps.

Hi Michael

Another suggestion

Open Resource usage view and go to Tools > Level Resources. Change the
settings as per your requirement and you may take the levelling order
Standard. As you give the command for Level resources, software will resolve
overallocation automatically for non critical activities and give a message
where it is overallocated for critical activities. This should be resolved
manually considering all other subjective issues.

I hope it helps.
