"Virgin" 2003 Setup?

Is there a knowledge base article telling me how to setup Office 2003 in a
basic mode? By that I mean I don't want any of these boxes popping up
telling me how many things I have in my clipboard etc., I would very much
like the default Word document not to have any of this automatic paragraph
numbering and such, many other of these types of things I would like to do
away with. Help Please.

Hi Bob,

If you're using a corporate edition and deploying
from an Office Admin point you can use the tools
in the Microsoft Office Resource Kit (ORK)
http://microsoft.com/office/ork/2003

If you're doing a single user installation you
can use the information in the documentation download
in the basic "ORKTools" package to set a number of things
with registry keys you could add from a batch script but
in general the defaults would be 'post installation' options
to change other than using a 'custom' install choice to limit
the features installed.

Then why use Office 2003?
OpenOffice will give you that Windows 3.11 look and feel for nothing.

I hate to sound like a dunce but... (1st of all - single home user), what
does that last paragraph mean in English (i.e., ORKTools, registry keys,
batch script)?? Surely there is some kind of "options" section where I can
check/uncheck behavior I want/don't want.

Hi Bob,

You can use the 'custom install' choice in Office
to choose which features to install, but basically
the defaults of what is turned on/off are customizable
after installation, generally in the Tools=>Options,
Tools=>Customize and Tools=>Autocorrect options in
the Office 2003 apps.

The tools are for companies deploying multiple 'cookie cutter'
copies of MS Office apps throught an organization so that
things are 'standardized' for their setups.
