In Visio 2003, menu File -> Save As and choose Visio 2002 format
(save the file as a different name, for example, put "_2002" at the
end of the file name) like myfile_2002.vsd

In other words, you have Visio 2003 files, but not Visio 2003. Short of
upgrading, you should try and find some friends with Visio 2003 to save as
Visio 2000/2002 format. If your friends do upgrade to Visio 2007, they will
still be able to open the files, but they will no longer have the ability to
save in Visio 2000/2002 format.

If you do consider upgrading, any Microsoft version of Visio back to
Microsoft Visio 2000 qualifies for an upgrade.

Correction - Visio 2007 users CAN save files in visio 2000/2002 format. It
is not the default, but you can either save manually back to 2002 format
using Save As, or you can change the default save format using Tools >
Options > Save/Open, and changing the Default File Format drop-down to
"Visio 2002 document".

There are solutions which will not export to the older version with full
fidelity - most notably the Org Chart solution was completely re-written in
Visio 2003, and files that are saved back are no longer compatible with the
older solution.

As John notes, the version you have qualifies for upgrade pricing on Visio
2007. There are some great new features that I think are worth upgrading
for, but you do have choices if you decide not to upgrade.
