Hi Tony,
Some question & suggestions.
Are you able to setup an odbc connection with excel to add some properties
to a shape for instance?
Can you try to import the orgchart.xls and then export the outcome
succesfully?
Does it occur with any kind of orgchart?
I mean an executive with 1 or 3 managers without any customization Visio
also crashes when exporting?
Excel is that also an 2007 application?
I run a process monitor log and basically visio preps up the odnc connection
excel makes the checks if everything is fine with security then starts to
fill in the fields
at the end excel saves the file then explorer create the link (lnk) and last
but not least searchprotocolhost indexes the file (on Vista)
If you run process monitor do you see any of that?
Search in process monitor on filename.vsd and filename.xls for instance.
As visio crashes what is the event given in the event viewer?
If it points to a certain dll it can be that the dll is outdated
This can happen if you have two visio versions on 1 computer
Hope this helps

Hi and thanks for the reply.
In terms of software versions, I have Visio 2007, athough Excel is
2003 (the only version available when I bought my laptop in 2006).
I'll take a look at using the event viewer but the ODBC stuff is way
beyond me. In any case, all I am trying to do is use the "Export
Organisation Data" option in the "Organisation Chart" menu on the top-
bar. When I use this facility to save the organisation chart data in
an excel workbook, it falls over.
Thanks
Tony
