Visual c++ Run Time error

I have Office xp with Word 2000, when I typing a new document maybe 2-5 minutes into it, a box pops up that shows Visual c++ Run Time error and you can only click ok which it terminates and closes Word. If I start a new document and save it before that time period I don't seem to get the error, but one time after I close my save document after a hour that error pop up and close out Word. I have tried Detect and repair, but I'm still getting the error. How can I fix this
