You need to sort your question.
Microsoft Picture Manager is a component of Office 2003. You statement: "my
office- word- works" Which version of Office? Which version of Word? Works
{which version} is not part of Office.

You do not to "compress pictures for E-Mail" Many image formats such as
*.jpg are already compressed. What you need to do for email is to reduce
the resolution of the image. In Picture Manager you do so by exporting to a
lower resolution. Other image editors will also have the same function. For
some image formats, you can reduce the resolution by right clicking on the
file and choosing Send To and then email recipient.

Oh, to get Microsoft Picture Manager you purchase and install Office 2003.

Not familiar with: "robert McN 9/6/04"

Microsoft Digital Image Pro Version 10 {as well as other version 10
applications} have a File, Save Copy for, Save for email or web which will
reduce your resolution for email. Version 10 is a new Microsoft release
with a mail in rebate {no prior product required for rebate}. The amount of
the rebate varies with the specific application. Additionally, I have seen
store discounts to promote the new product.

Other image editing application will also reduce resolution for email such
as Adobe Photoshop Elements or Photoshop CS will also reduce resolution.

You can send more than one pictures by collecting them in a *.zip file and
sending the *.zip file. You can also collect a number of pictures into a
slide show file and send that file. Adobe Acrobat will do so as will
others. Note: the more pictures you add to a file the greater the file size.
A large file may exceed your ISP limits.

If by "microsoft photo edite" you mean Microsoft Photo Editor, application
was a component of Office XP and prior. Microsoft Photo Editor was replaced
by Microsoft Picture Manager in Office 2003.

IMO either one of the Microsoft Digital Image applications/suites or one of
the Adobe Photoshop applications {as well as others} will suit your needs.
In general Abobe Photoshop has a greater learning curve that Microsoft
Digital Image.

I you want more specific answers, you need to be more specific as to your
needs. Have you tried right clicking on one of your image files {you did
not say what format you have for image files}, and select Send To, Email
Recipient? You file format may be one that Windows XP can reduce resolution
for you.
