Hi,

I have put a formula in a cell (long one), but when I click the cell the
formula is visible in the formula bar. I have protected the sheet. though the
cell has the value but i don't want the formula to be visible in the formula
bar. Can some one provide me the option.
Thx

SR,
First of all, are you talking about Project or Excel (you use the
reference to a "sheet")? If it is Excel, you have posted in the wrong
newsgroup. This newsgroup is dedicated to questions/issues relating to
MS Project, a planning and scheduling application. I suggest you post to
one of the many newsgroups for Excel.

If in fact you are referring to Project, then no, if users can open the
file for viewing, they will be able to see all data including formulas
in custom fields. I guess the only option might be to put the formula in
a VBA macro. Do not attach the macro to the file itself (i.e. run from
your Global). When the macro is run against the file, it will populate
the field with a value but the formula that created the value will not
be available to anyone but yourself.

If you are talking about Excel, one way to make a formula invisible is by
protecting the worksheet. First, select the entire worksheet or just the
cells where you want to hide the formulas, from the Format menu select cells,
go to the protection tab and check the box for hidden. Then go to the tools
menu and select protection, then protect sheet, make the appropriate choices
for your sheet and the cell formulas will be hidden. Anyone who knows about
protection can undo this procedure so be sure to use a password if necessary.

Also, this locks the spreadsheet so no changes can be made so you may need
to select the entire worksheet and unlock the cells (format, cells,
protections tab) prior to using the protection feature.

Good luck!
