Web page designing/hyperlinks

D

Daniel

I am trying to sell a service on the Net (12 pages of
documentation).
I have used FrontPage 2000 to create my web. Everything
was OK until I realized the following:
My web has got only 2 levels: The Home page on the first
and all the other pages on to a second level. Obviously,
the Home page contains the hyperkinks to the other pages.

On the Home page, I created a "pay button" downloaded
from the net to process a one off payment and then re-
direct the visitor on to the second page to start surfing
my web.
But, I have just realized that on the navigation bar
every page contains a link back to the Home page. which
means that any visitor who, after having paid, would hit
the Home button would have to pay again to visit the
site.
I've tried everything to get rid of the home page link to
no avail.
Please, any suggestion?
Thank you very much as I'm stuck.

Create you navigation manually instead of using FP navigation component. You
will also need to create a restricted area of your site and then provide a
means for those who have to paid to have access to the restricted area via
login.

How you would accomplish this depends on the type of OS your site is hosted
on and what server-side scripting language is support by your host and your
willing to learn to code in that language, if you want each user to have
unique logins.

If you don't want to give each user a unique login, then may be able to use,
depending on your host, a FP subweb with unique permission and single login.

Thanks very much Thomas but you are too good too advanced
for me. I'm an 18 year studiant who tries to get a few
bob with a web site.
How to create navigation manually and a restricted area
via login?
I'm not sure that I could do that without any help.
My OS? XP
Thanks

Sorry Thomas I forget to put my name.
I'm the guy who was telling you about his uselessness.
How to create a navigation manually, a restricted area
and a login/access to this restricted area.
Thanks

Ok, then first make sure that your site is hosted on a server the support
the FP extensions and that you can create a subweb with unique permissions.

If yes to the above, then create folder (this will be come your subweb),
move all content that needs to be restricted into this folder, also create a
images folder and place copies of any images used in the pages that will be
in this folder. Rename the first page that a user would access upon entering
this area to same name as your current home page in the root of your web.

Next right click on this folder and convert to web (subweb), then open this
subweb, and re-create your navigation structure based on your new home page
and re-link all images to point the images folder within the subweb.

Next publish the site to the remote server via FP's http mode, then open the
subweb in FP on the remote server in FP, then Tools | Security... and
following the instruction for setting up a single user account login for the
subweb. This login is what you would then give to your customers.

or you will need to learn to learn ASP, PHP, etc. and database (whatever is
supported by your host) and write a custom application to handle this login
process.
