web page newsletter

I designed an HTML email newsletter in Publisher & had problems with
inconsistency on the receiver(s) end. After reading up on the subject, I
decided to simply convert the newsletter to a web page, put it on the server
& send my subscribers a plain text mail with a link to the page. So far so
good. I converted the document to a web page, (save as, web page), & put it
up. When opened, however, the pictures aren't recognized. Did I save the page
incorrectly? How do I fix this?

Assuming that you are using Pub 2003 or 2007, then use "Publish to the Web"
to produce your html files, not "Save as, a web page". This produces
"filtered" html which is much lighter and a loads much more quickly.

If you aren't seeing the images on the site, that is usually because you
haven't uploaded all the html files produced by Publisher. When you Publish
to the Web, you will get an index.htm file (your home page) and an
index_files folder that contains all the supporting graphics and additional
pages. You apparently did not upload the index_files folder.

If you have follow up questions about Publisher webs, please post in the web
group and we will try to help you there. Thanks.

Thanks to both. I am using Publisher 2003. I could send the newsletter as a
PDF attachment, but I'd rather put it on my site & send a link to my
subscribers.

I uploaded both the index.htm file & the index_files to the server. Now when
I go to the page, the GIF's are visible, but not the JPEG's. I can right
click & view the JPEG's on my server/control panel page, but they don't show
on the page itself.

Obviously, I don't know much about this. I could email the company who
maintains my site, & they'd put it on, but I'd rather learn for myself I'll
keep reading.

Personally I think sending a small email with an introductory paragraph, and
a link to more content on your website is a good way to go...

I am now guessing that the reason your JPGs are not visible is that they are
too large.
Read: Compress graphics file sizes to create smaller Publisher Web pages:

Take the time to go to the web group and read the last 50 posts or so, and
you will save yourself a lot of time and hassle...

Thanks again. I think you're right about the image sizes. I used pictures
that I'd optimized for my site in Photoshop, & because of this, I thought
they were okay. I guess I wasn't thinking. I'll re-work them, probably by by
changing their size in PS to the actual size they are in the newsletter, &
try it again tomorrow. I knew when the GIF's showed up that I was doing
something wrong.

I'm pretty sure this will work. I'll post back with the results in case
anybody with a similar problem is following this thread.

I did read quite a bit in the web group today & learned alot. Frankly, when I
first encountered my problem, I didn't think about it as a "web" issue. I was
thinking newsletter & email. As far as Publisher is concerned, I'm certainly
a newbie. Thanks for your patience.

Unfortunately, re-sizing didn't work either. I also found that, on Firefox,
none of the pictures display. On IE7, only the GIF's display.

Please repost in the web group, include a link to your website, specify the
issues, and we will help you sort it out.
