What do I need to do, Installed office 2003 nothing works, instal.

I installed Office 2003 after uninstalling office 97. No program works:
Excel says virus scanner detected a problem with the file I want to open,
Word says the the file I want to open is not available. Uninstalled office
2003, installed office 97 and everything works. Reinstalled office 2003,
kept previous version of office installed, now office 97 opens all my files
and office 2003 opens nothing, just gives me the error messages noted above.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your response. I am using Symantec Antivirus corporate edition,
and reading through the file you referenced to I cannot find an Options
section in the antivirus software to disable the office plug-in. Any ideas?

If once upon a time there was an older version of Norton Antivirus installed
on the computer, then the Office Plugin from the older version could still be
registered in Windows even if the older version has been uninstalled. Search
for the OFFICEAV.DLL file on the hard drive (include system and hidden
files/folders). If you find it, note the folder where it is located, and use
the "regsvr32 /u" method described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 to unregister the DLL.
