What software application did Microsoft Office Project originate f

Looking for the answer to this question and having trouble finding it online.
Does anybody know what software appliation was bought out by Microsoft and
converted into MS Office Project? Curious.

I'm pretty sure it was called Project. But I don't know who published it.

No existing app was bought and converted. Project was developed by MS
developers from the ground up. I know this from meeting and talking to
the head of the project team in '91 or '92.

Then they took the NAME of an existing product. That is why the "Microsoft
Project" name was necessary...I think.

I remember a Project for DOS which I think was from Microsoft. This evolved
into Microsoft Project for Windows in '90

I guess I always assumed they started with code from the pre-Windows
version, but never thought to ask.
