When pressing send/receive in office xp prof I get an error messa.

I had a trial of office 2003 which expired so I deleted office 2003 and now I
can not send /receive. If I write a new email and send it through outlook it
works but will not recieve any emails.

Sounds like you need to set up Outlook XP properly following the
instructions provided by your particular ISP.
