White space in paragraph

Hi,

I need to put in white space into my document to handwrite
the date. This is not part of a form, so I can't use
tables for formatting and is part of a regular paragraph.
I don't want to use hard spaces to do this because I want
to accurately control the measurement if the font is
changed.

Thanks.

Greg,

Thanks for the suggestion...That won't give me the ability
to control the measurement of the space.

I was even thinking of a form field code, but it doesn't
give you the ability to control the spacing.

An Advance code might do what you want (note that 72 points = 1 inch). Or,
if you're using Word 2000 or above, you could insert an inline AutoShape
with no/white line and no/white fill. But neither will help if the line
wraps right where your space is.

jbc,

Sorry, I see now that you said you couldn't use formatting ;-(

How about an Advance Field? Example:

{ ADVANCE r\50} will advance the cursor 50 points the right.

What about inserting a text box formatted as inline-with-text? With a
text box, you can:
1. Format it to have a bottom border only, or no border at all,
depending on what you need, and
2. Specify the exact width of the text box, so that no matter what font
or font size you use, the text box remains the same size, and no matter
where the text box falls on a given line (beginning, end, or somewhere
inbetween) it will always allow the same amount of space to write the date.

Note that any kind of inline drawing object will be possible only in Word
2000 (?) or above.

Hi all,

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I'm using
Word 2000 and I don't have the option to format the text
box inline. That would work well.

What I ended up doing is using a form field that is not
enabled. This document is a form and contains other form
fields. I changed the character spacing for the form
field to expanded (15 pts) and it seems to be working
well.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.
