why are tasks and work duplicated in task usage report?

When viewing the task usage report using project 2002 it appears that
randomly tasks with the related amount of work are duplicated on the report
therefore the rolled up totals are inflated and incorrect.

Hi

Not being able to see your screen I have to ask for more information

Are there multiple resources assigned to tasks?
Do you get the same result in the resource usage view?

Actually the resource usage view and print out is my major issue. I use this
report extensively to monitor if our workforce is structured to meet the
demands for support.

I checked and I do believe that every task that is duplicated and printed
out on the usage report does indeed have multiple resources assigned to it.
Basically the resources I assign are mechanics and electricians. Usaully a
task invloves both mechanical and electrical personnel to complete.

Certain tasks on the usage report are duplicated both for the electrician
resource and the mechanic resource.

I maintain the "master" project plan for the plant so I therefore insert our
project leaders' projects into the master. The tasks that are getting
duplicated are tasks that are part of an inserted project.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi eng master,

Are the tasks duplicated on the Resource Usage view? Or the Task Usage view?
Or both?

If you are seeing duplicated task names (actually they are assignments) on
the Resource Usage view and there are multiple resources working on tasks,
this is expected. The assignment (represented by the name of the task
indented under the Resource's name) shows for each resource who is assigned
to the task.

Are you using a resource pool file for your resources? I have frequently
seen assignments repeated in the Resource Usage view when a resource pool
file is used and someone renames (through File > Save As) one of the
projects that is connected to the pool file. The resource pool file then
maintains the connection to *both* project files.

You may want to add the [Project] field to the task usage view to view the
name of the project that the duplicate tasks are coming from. Are they the
*exact* same project name?

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
Julie
