Why can't I get a successful update to Office with the original i.

I have attempted to update MS-Office 2003 Professional. When the update
processes it ask for the original installation CD. The dialob box that does
the prompting, shows the actual drive used to perform the installation. It
goes through the process, but when finished it states the update was
unsuccessful.

When I look at updates installed and it shows the the SP1 was installed.
When I try to update the new updates, I am told that I have to have SP1
installed first???
