Why doesn't the Gantt Chart wizard come up in Visio 2007 pro?

Hi,

I'm trying to create a Gantt chart in Visio 2007. Having been a previous
user of Visio 2003, I'm used to the Gantt chart options coming up when I
select new > scheduling > Gantt Chart. Instead, when selecting new Gantt
chart, I am just presented with a blank workspace, with Gantt chart shapes,
but there is no Gantt chart menu in the menu bar up top. Selecting the Gantt
diagram shape on the left and dragging it onto the workspace creates the
Gantt shape, but when I right click on it and select insert column, new task,
options, or configure working time, nothing happens. There seems to be no way
to set the parameters for the chart at all. What is going on? I have 2003 on
another machine and this works fine. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

When I open the gannt chart on my system it does start the wizard. Under
options => advanced do you have enable automation events checked? Do you get
the Gantt Chart Menu item installed in the menu bar? Has this ever worked on
your v2007 image? Do other wizards also fail (cross functional flowchart)?

Hi AlEdlund,

Thanks very much for your prompt reply. In options > advanced enable
automation events was checked. I tried unchecking it and trying again then
rechecking, trying again, but still nothing. There's no Gantt Chart Menu item
installed in the menu bar, and right-clicking the menu bar > customize, the
Gantt Chart Menu item does not appear there either. Also, all other wizards
fail as well, including in the cross functional flowchart. I also tried doing
a fresh install of 2007 and then re-applying SP1 but the problem still
remains.

I also tried opening a Gantt chart I did in Visio 2003 in 2007 and it
wouldn't let me edit the parameters of that either. Right clicking the Gantt
Chart and selecting either insert column, new task, options, or configure
working time does absolutely nothing. I'm at a loss for ideas here, do you
know of anything else that might help? Cheers.

The three obvious things that we normally check are a.) is it installed, and
it sounds like you have installed it, b.) is automation enabled (that's why
I asked the question relative to another add-in working), c.) what is
security set at (enabling macros's, etc.). If the menu's aren't showing up
(should happen automatically when you start the solution) then it is
probably either automation or security.

Ah you just solved my problem when you mentioned security. Many thanks.

Problem was in the add-ins pane in trust center. A while ago while using
Word 2007, i was having many problems with the 'send to bluetooth' addin. I
ended up checking the disable all application add-ins check box. Little did I
know that this setting appears to be global across all office apps. Anyway I
unticked it and the Visio wizards are back. Cheers.
