Why MS office gathers information on every pc on network?

Hi, I just want to know why MS office gathers information on each and every
PC on the network for a single user?If user is working on one computer and
logs off from ther and log in from another computer MS office gathers
information and installs something. Can you tell me why it does that?and how
to remove that process?

Since you don't mention how you created this issues, I will guess that
you installed Office at all the machines, and so the first time a user
logs onto a machine Office is setting up the users profile so that they
may use the Office applications. You do know that each user has a
profile on each machine and every they log onto, right?

Bob,

Yes! I've installed office from and admin install point (using the default
MST) on all my lab computers. We're using Novell for clients to log onto the
PCs which then grants the clients restricted user rights. What happens is
that the first time a client logs onto a specific PC, the profile is loaded
with ID info (like you stated), however, this takes some time (a couple of
minutes) and is rather annoying. Moreover, no one student (client) uses the
same PC all the time, which means that a student may have to deal with this
nusiance of "Microsoft Office is Gathering information ...." etc. everytime
they log onto a PC. To further complicate issues, we image our labs almost
quarterly or more, which means that students have to put up with this alot.

Any suggestions on how to keep Office from "gathering info" to setup the
profile at all? Your help and advice is appreciated.

If you dislike the results of enabling roaming user profiles, quit using
them. The college that I attend assigns mandatory machine profiles, so that
each machine only has to build a profile once, and only once.

If you want users to have unique profiles but don't want them to wait for
their profile to replicate every time they log onto a different machine,
then implement mandatory seating in the classrooms.
