Why won't Word 2000 open?

I was using Microsoft Word 2000 last night and it was working fine. The next
time that I clicked on Word, I got a message saying that "My resources were
dangerously low" and my computer locked up! I rebooted and checked my
resources and they didn't appear to be low. I can get into any other program
but the "My documents" folder and Microsoft Word.
The only way that I can access Word is by going through Microsoft Works,
clicking "letter", and then going into an old document. I used the "detect
and repair" feature but, it didn't work.
I am pretty illeterate when it comes to this kind of thing! LOL! Can
anyone help?
