Wierd things happening in the outlook folders

Everytime I start up outlook 2000 my contacts and messages
are missing... after I click off the folder and then
click back on it again... The messages and contacts are
back where and accessible. This happens everytime outlook
starts up... any ideas? There are no filters or rules at
all! thanks.
