Windows installer version?

Charles P

Apparently I downloaded and upgraded the windows
installer file when I wasn't supposed to, it won't let me
scan for updates in office xp.

I have 2 copies of this, same file attributes, version
2.0.2600.1106, file size 63K,
one of them is in windows/system32,
the other is in windows/servicepack/files/i386

can someone tell me what version I need to run to be able
to get the updates, and if it is a diffrent version where
I can get it from.

o/s is xp pro, with all the required updates.
Note: the installer is only a problem with Office xp..
I believe that after U upgraded to sp2 for office that
publisher decided to take a vacation and not work.
I'd like to be able to get ugdates for the rest of the
office products I have..
Thanks
Charles

Hi, Charles,

It's possible that the Office Update isn't working right. A search of this
newsgroup reveals that you're not the only person having problems with this,
and there are several possible solutions that have been posted.

One solution is that you can go directly to the updates you need and
download them directly, without using Office Update, which has been
experiencing some problems of late.

Microsoft Office Downloads:
http://office.microsoft.com/officeu...ID=CD010224911033&CTT=4&Origin=ES790020041033

Or, go to the Office Update Site and click on "Downloads for Office XP".

Susan,
if I have to reinstall office, what order of the updates
would I upgrade to? (since the problem happened after
installing one of the updates)

would I just install SP2, and not SP1 first?

I'm going to change my configuration of hard drives in
the near future, and set up more drives, on a diffrent
controller, and this needs to be put to rest before I do
that.

Thanks
Charles

Hi, Charles P

You still need to install the updates in order of their release. Office
SP-2 needs SP-1 installed. (There's a note in the KB article that says "You
do not have to install Office XP SP-1 before you install the Office XP SP-2
Administrative Update". This relates to the administrative update, not SP-2
on a workstation.)

This gives you all you should need on the updates:

305095 - OFFXP: History of Office XP Updates:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;305095

Hope that helps--
