Word 2000 Issue

Bill Helbron

Can someone please tell me why, when I type a word immediately followed by a
semicolon, it automatically inserts a space between the word and the
semicolon? Thanks!

The language of your document is probably set to French (that's how
they do it).

Assuming 2000 is a lot like 2003, select your whole document (Ctrl-A),
go to Tools > Language > Set Language, and pick one of the English
varieties.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion but all of my documents have the
default set at "English (U.S.)"!

Regardless of what the "default" is, the language at the insertion point
could well be French. Language is a property that can be applied to a unit
as small as a single character.
