Word 2000 keeps looking for installable files

S

Steve

I am running Office 2000. Everytime I open Word the first
time ilogin to my machine it runs an automic install of
something. My install files are on a server over the
netwrok. I do not know what it is installing to be used,
so I re-installed Word and chose the option to run
everything from the hard drive thinking this would solve
the problem, but it has not. Is there any way I can
figure out what it is installing, or going back to the
install file location for? I can not see anything in the
Event Viewer that is helpfull.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

There is likely some registry components that are
missing/incomplete/corrupt. You can find out what is missing by looking in
the Event Viewer to the Applicaiton log (Depending on Windows Version). You
should see some MsiInstaller logs. You should see a reocurring message that
will mention a product and then a component that needs to be installed.

You could also look in the registry in the following location (regedit)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common

Make sure the follwing REG_DWORD values are present: in both locations
UserData = 0x00000001 (1)
OSAShortcut = 0x00000001 (1)

Add the keys if they are missing
