Word 2000 paste special links from Excel 2000

Hi

I am having trouble paste special linking tables from an excel spreadsheet to Word 2000. The problem is I get a 'Word has encountered a problem and needs to close' message when I try to save the latest version of the document.

The problems seems to occur after I have paste special linked a few tables into the word doc although it has occured on paste linking the 1st table.
The tables are from Excel 2000 (saved as Excel 97-2000 & 5.0/95 workbook). The workbooks have a macro to update the price values in the table I'm linking to word.

My OS is XP Pro (I have noted the problem also occurs under Win98).

Any ideas?

TIA

Pete

Hi Pete

Maybe try linking a *picture* of the table instead of the table itself.

In Excel, Edit > Copy as usual. In Word, Edit > Paste Special. Choose to
link, and choose to paste as a picture.

Hope this helps.

Hi Shauna

Thanks for that. I have decided to start afresh with a new doc and then copy paste link the excel tables for each workbook as pictures as you suggested.

Are you aware of any way that I can stop the macro 'enable' 'disable' warnings appearing when I open the word doc?

It takes forever to open the doc due to the macros warnings.

Hi Pete

You can use Tools > Macros > Security to change your security warning
setting. Setting it to "Low" will prevent the warning messages from
appearing, but it will also expose you to a risk of macro viruses if you
should open a document with destructive code.

If this is your own code, then I suggest you put the code in a template and
store the template in one of Word's "approved" locations. If this is code
you need to run on all documents, no matter what template the document is
based on, then put the file in the folder listed at Tools > Options > File
Locations > Start Up. It will then load as an add-in every time you run
Word. If the code is document-specific, then store the file at the folder
listed at Tools > Options > File Locations > User Templates (or Workgroup
templates). Create a new document by doing File > New.

If the document is in Word's StartUp, User Templates or Workgroup Templates
folder, then you won't get a warning message about macros (because Word
assumes you would only put files in those locations that you trusted).

Hope this helps.
