Word 2000 Professional & Windows ME

I have installed Office 2000 Professional on a machine running Windows ME. It also has Microsoft Works 2000 suite installed. When attempting to open Word, the system hangs and will not open Word. THere is 128 MB RAM available and 27GB HArddrive space free. Please advise

If you installed Office after Works Suite, the copy of Word from Works Suite
will not have been replaced with Word from Office. It's usually a good idea
to uninstall Word from Works Suite and reinstall it from Office. That way
(for one thing) all your Office apps have the same CD key, and you may avoid
other problems as well. Also, be sure to uninstall the Microsoft Works Suite
Add-in for Word.

Thanks for your help; I thought there might be a conflict between Works and Office and now you confirmed it. I'm glad it was not the operating system.

Go to Sart then search for the normal.dot file. when you
do find it, rename it to abnormal then go back and try to
open word. It worked ok for me....Good Luck
