Word 2003 Deleted Box

I recently installed Office 2003 to replace Office 2000. Some documents show
a green box in the corner with the text "Deleted" inside the box. Also in
the box is a field I can enter data but cannot delete what I enter. I can't
get rid of this "Deleted" box and don't know what is is used for or where it
comes from. Please help.
