Word 2003 opening Excel Spreadsheets

Hi! Any ideas as to why I can't open an Excel file in Word? It should just
open fine and show as a table. I get a dialog box showing me gibberish
asking how I want to convert it.

I have ne´ver been able to open excel files in word. If I want to have
numbers from excels in a table I select the numbers in excel and then paste
them into word. That works.

or you can probably insert the worksheet as an object into Word.
I would be very surprised if Word opened an Excel spreadsheet directly.
(maybe pleased, maybe not)
