Word 2003 problems

I got Microsoft Office 2003 about 4 months ago and was very impressed up to about 2 weeks ago. I dont remeber doing anything specific 2 weeks ago, but scince then when I am typing or editing my word document word does loads of things itself. For example it will just insert a picture frame, or the new document window will pop up on the side, or the open a document window pops up (this happens every 5 mins). Every day it seems to find something new to do, this is getting very very very frustrating, and I have no idea what is going on. Does anyone have any ideas, I would be very greatful

Do you have Speech Recognition enabled (Tools | Speech)?

yes i do however I have not used it for a while and my microphone is not plugged in

wow it works (disabling the speech recognition) , thank you soooooooo much you cant imagine how greatful I am
