Word 2007 Normal.dotm Template

Is it "normal" that the Normal.dotm is saved each and every time that Word is
closed? Of course, it should save if changes are made that effect the
Normal.dotm but nothing has been done to force that save.

I have a client where each and every time they close Word it saves the
Normal.dotm (I see the date stamp). The Normal.dotm is located in the user
profile. Sometimes, the prompt to save the Normal.dotm displays but not
always.

Also, they have Adobe product if that might make a difference.
Thanks for any input anyone might have on this.

Add-ins can certainly change the normal behaviour of Word and Adobe
Acrobat's add-ins (particularly version 7) have an inglorious history of bad
interaction. You could try disabling or uninstalling the add-in and see if
that fixes the behaviour and if it does seek an update for the add-in before
re-activating it.

If the prompt to save the normal template option is checked it should never
save normal.dotm without the user's express permission. If the option is not
operating correctly, it can reflect a corruption of the data key in the
registry. See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm. and in
particular the reference to the data key.
