Word 2007 spell check

I am writing a paper, and Word will sometimes underline a misspelled word,
and sometimes it won't. Is there something I can adjust in my settings to
change this?

Such as "there" when you meant "their".

Select ALL of the Document and then Set the Language to US english.
(Review tab, Proofing, Set Language, English(US))
