Word 97

When working in a word document, in page layout view, my cursor
disappears in the right margin (grey area to the right of the virtual
page)
I have checked mouse settings in control panel.
I tried re-inastalling Word.
All to no avail.
I only see this problem when working in Word.
Any ideas?
