Word and Excel starts very slow with file association

P

Patrick G

I have a computer with Windows XP service pack 1 and Office
2000 service pack 2. If I double-click an .xls or .doc
file to start Excel/Word it takes a long time for the
Application to start and load the file. If I just start
Excel or Word then the application starts quickly. If I
go on to open the same file in Excel/Word there is no
delay. Other files types that I open through file
association are not slow.

Hi Patrick,

If you use Norton AV in Norton go to Options and in the Miscellaneous
section turn off "Enable Office Plug-in".

Otherwise try recreating the file associations for Word and Excel. Go
to Start/Run and run:

winword /r
excel /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash.
