It's very difficult to help you without knowing which version of
Word on which OS?

I just bought an eMac early this month - G4 running System 10.2.6
I have a Word:mac vX CD that is about a year old. I bought it for an
older eMac that my new one is replacing. When I installed word on my
older mac there was a problem with the program crashing about every 5
min. so I contacted Microsoft. They said (1) go to mactopia (2)
download Microsoft office Service Release #1 (3) install that on my
computer and all will go well. I did that and all was well - it fixed
the problem.

So... I after I installed Word X on my new eMac I went through the
same process and ran into a problem. When I click on the MS Office
2001 SR1Updater (which poped up on my desktop after I clicked on the
file MS Office 2001 SR1 Upd... sit that poped up on my desktop after I
downloaded the English.bin from mactopia) a window pops up that says,
"The default location required for this install could not be found.
This install will be cancelled."

Can you help?

Hello Mike,

The response you are getting:
"The default location required for this install could not be found.
This install will be cancelled."
sounds like the program and the update don't match. I got something very
similar when I tried to update my German Apple Works with an English
updater. So you might try to check this, and see if there is another updater
available.

Hi Mike,

I think Thomas is right, and here is another possible incompatibility (I
know because it happened to me). I was reinstalling Office 2001 and when I
went to download the SR 1, I downloaded the version for the SE (Special
Edition) instead of the version for the full Office. I got the same type of
error message. Any chance this is what you did?
