Word document as Data Source

Having used Mail Merge for some considerable time prior to updating from Word
98 to 2003 I expected to be able to use my previous word file for mail merge.
Now when I try to open the file as my data source I get the message 'word
was unable to open the data source'. What do I need to do to have the .doc
file accepted as a data source?

Make sure that you can open the file using the File>Open dialog and then
save it in Word 2003. There has been no change in mailmerge that would
prevent a document that worked as a datasource in Word 97 (or Word 95) from
being used as a datasource in Word 2003.

Was Word98 a Macintosh version? Maybe that is your problem.
