Word & Excel files all Read Only

Hello,

I provide 3rd level desktop support for my company. A case has been
escalated in which all all users Word and Excel files open as Read Only
files. The properties for all these files show they are not Read Only.
Nothing reported to have changed. Files are all located along hte path
c:\documents & settings\<USERNAME>\data and below in sub-folders. All the
affected files are encrypted. User does not know who they became encrypted.
Per corporate standard, the only normally encrypted folder is the
....\<USERNAME>\data and sub-folders. The Date folder includes My Documents
and the Data folder (mailbox is a sub-folder under data). Outlook does not
seem to be affected.

Not sure at point, but user received an error message indicating it was
trying to get to installation package STD11.MSI. No sure what user was done
to trigger this message or what feature was trying to be installed.

Do this sound familiar to anyone? I'd appreciate any help that anyone can
offer.

Sorry, forgot to say I'm running Office 2003 on WinXP/SP2.

In the operating system elect to turn off "encryption" for the folder.
See "Windows Help and Support" for assistance with folder settings.
