Word Fails to Open

Word was working fine and then developed a problem where
it wouldn't work with a Goldmine mail merge feature. I
repaired the software, uninstalled and reinstalled the
software and have done all the Windows/Office updates.
Same problem. The splash screen comes up, then a dialog
box appears and says "WINWORD.EXE has generated errors and
will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the
program. An error log is being created." The error log
says, "C000005 access violation" for each start.

Windows 2000 and Word 2000. Any ideas as to what may be
wrong? Thanks!
