Word in IE shows save changes message

I open a word document in Internet Explorer everything work ok
until I click a link on the word document. The link goes to a web site but
before that a messages appears saying

"This document has been modified. Do you want to save changes?"
I can then press Yes - No - cancel

If I press No everything works.

Why does this message appear if if I have not modified the word document all
I do is click the link
to the web site. Is there a way to stop this message appearing?

many thanks

Yes I understand that but why should that message appear if I have not
altered the file in any way.

When you click on a link, you are changing the style of the hyperlink from
Hyperlink to Followed Hyperlink.
