Word (Office 2003) crashes upon file>open>search

[Program crash on File Open Look in:]

In FIle Open window, clicking the drop down box for "Look in" causes the
program to become nonresponsive and it must then be closed. Searching for
files using the icons on the left of the window works fine. How do I repair
the problem?

Thanks for your suggestion. However, the link refers to Word 97, not Office
2003 Word. Also, I do not get an error message; I simply see "Open (Not
responding)" in the program bar and when I try to close it, I get an error
message to the same effect. Is the "fix" you suggested still appropriate?

The problem is still usually caused by having an inaccessible folder in the
list.
