word opening error

Bill

Hi

Office 2000 on a XP pro system.

When I start Word I recieve an error message and I must close Word.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall Office but it didn't change a thing.

I can't tell when the problem started exactly because I didn't need Word for
a while and I installed some softs lately.

Is there a workaround or a fix for that kind of problem ?

Thanks

Dear Bill,

Can you tell me what you did? I'm running Word 2000 (part of Office 2000) on
an HP ze493us notebook with Windows XP.

Suddenly yesterday morning it became impossible for me to open any of my MS
Word files with my MS Word 2000 program. I get the message "MS Word has
encountered a problem and needs to close."

I have been to the MS support site and tried both solutions to this problem
offered there: (1) uncheck compatibility under Properties for the shortcut
(program wasn't running in compatibility mode) and (2) rename Normal.dot and
let the program create a new one. Neither solution made any difference.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled both disks of MS Office 2000 for
Small Business three times, once with the help of an HP technical support
person (because this computer is an HP notebook). That, too, made no
difference.

Please help!! I can't access any of the Word files that are crucial for my
work!!
