Word overwrites

Hi

Occasionally when adding some type to a Word doc - in the middle of the
document for example - it overwrites the later part of the document; it
"eats" it up, as it were. How can I prevent this please? Using Office
2000.

Many thanks in advance.

Look at the bottom of the Word window, where it shows which page
you're on and stuff like that. See where the letters OVR are black,
while the other abbreviations next to it (REC TRK EXT) are (probably)
grayed out? You're in Overtype mode. To get back into Insert mode, you
can either double-click on the OVR indicator, or press the Insert key
on your keyboard. It's a toggle switch, so if you hit the Insert key
again, you'll be back in Overtype mode--which is probably how you got
there in the first place.
