Word tables and formatting

Marge

How do I make all the tables in a document the same size
globally? I have tried everything in all format menus.
The style I want is "Elegant", BUT with A bold header, is
there a way to do this globally instead of one at a time?

Hi Marge,

In one sentence you mention "size", in the next style and
fomatting. Which are you asking about?

And even more importantly, which version of Word do you
have?
How do I make all the tables in a document the same size
globally? I have tried everything in all format menus.
The style I want is "Elegant", BUT with A bold header, is
there a way to do this globally instead of one at a time?

Hello Cindy,
Thank you for responding. Actually I am asking about both
size and format. I am using Windows NT 4.0 SP-6 and MS
Word 2000 SP-3. Is there a way with just a few clicks to
make all the tables in the entire document the same size
and format. I have been going into "Table Auto Format"
(one table at a time), I select "Elegant" as the style
table I want, however I would like the header to be Bold
when I do this, and that is not an option. Is there a way
to make that an option? Is there a way to do this
globally with all the tables in the entire document?
Secondly, I have been going into "Table properties" one
table at a time to change the "preferred width" to 6.25"
and the "Indent from left" to 0.33". Is there a way to do
this globally with all the tables in the entire document?
Is there a way to combine sizing the table, and formatting
the style together? Would this be something I could add
to the style menu? Also, of course, in an ideal document
I would like all the headers to repeat and no rows to
break across page.
I hope I have stated my questions more clearly.
Thanks! :)
Margo

Hi Margo,

The only way would be to use a macro (VBA) to loop through
all the tables in the document and apply the required
formatting. Table styles, which would help you with quite a
bit of this, weren't introduced until Word 2002...

I suggest you record a macro while making the formatting
changes to a "typical" table.

Then go to a different table and play the macro. Make very
detailed notes about what things do NOT work as they ought.

copy/paste your macro, and your observations, into a reply.
Then we'll show you how to modify the recorded macro to
- loop through all tables in a document
- take care of the things that don't work
