Word Templates

I have created a number of Word templates for other employees to access, however, when opening the files, rather than opening them as new files (.doc), they open them as the template (.dot). How can I automate it so that it opens as a new document

Put them in the User Templates or Workgroup Templates folder and instruct
users to use File New to access the templates.
