Word vX:Mac can't open or save

I can't open or save documents in Word vX:mac, the program just quits,
unexpected error. The program starts up OK, can print, I just can't save or
open. I throw preferences and reloaded word, but same problem. How o I
fix?

Is this all documents or always the same doc?

Renaming the Normal template and restarting Word works similarly to trashing
prefs to get a fresh copy of a file that can corrupt.
