Word will not open my files, "requesting virus scan"

I use Word 2000, and it was running well until today.
Now, I am not able to open any of my Word files. When I
try to open a file, the entire computer locks up, and Word
indicates that it is "requesting virus scan". Then I
reset the computer.

I remove and reinstalled the program, and am completely
baffled. All other programs run just fine. Word has been
running fine for a couple of year, until today. It seem
very unlikely that it is a virus, as we have a safe
environment, and are very careful.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Disable the Norton Office Plug-in, which is probably the cause of the
problem (and certainly of the "Requesting virus scan" message). See "OFF:
Cannot Open Office Documents or Cannot Edit Inserted Objects After You
Install Office XP Service Pack 2 or Office 2000 Service Pack 3" at
