WordArt Problem

I saved some Publisher 95 files from my old computer and copied them to my
new computer that has Publisher 2007 and Windows Vista installed. Some of
these files are signs that I made to use in my store. I can't edit the signs
that were made with WordArt. When I try I get the following message:

"Publisher cannot launch or communicate with the OLE server program needed
to complete this task.

There may not be enough disk space, or there may be a problem with the
server program. To make more disk space available, delete some unneeded
files on your hard disk. If you suspect a problem with the server program,
try reinstalling it. Then try this task again."

The disk space is not the problem, there's lots of space left. Any
suggestions before I have to start reinstalling programs? What is the OLE
server program and where do I find it or do I should I reinstall Publisher
2007?

I'm not sure 2007 can open 95 files. There was a security update months ago that
kept 2003 from opening legacy files. I assume it carried over to 2007.

There is an article describing the problem, while it does not mention 95 or 97 I
have had problems opening files from those versions.
Error message when you try to open a Publisher 2.0 publication in Publisher
2003, Publisher 2002, or Publisher 2000: "Publisher cannot open this file"

Do you have Norton? It too, could be a problem

Thanks Mary, but opening the file isn't the problem. I have no problem
opening the files and I can edit text unless the text was made using WordArt.

I use McAfee, not Norton.

When I need to edit the old WordArt, I simply double-click the old WordArt.

This article has your error, seems there isn't any help...except for the add-in
and patience
WordArt objects in a Publisher 2000 publication may appear distorted when opened

Double clicking the text is the way I was able to edit WordArt before my new
computer.

According to that article, installing the add-in corrects a distortion
problem that I don't have. After installing the add-in the distortion
problem's gone but you can't edit WordArt and you get the error message.

I'm getting the same error message and I can't edit text with or without the
add-in.

It sounds like your WordArt has been converted
to an image....IOW...there are no individual letters
to edit. Can you delete the old WordArt and just
insert a new WordArt text box?

Yes I can delete the old WordArt and insert a new one. It's just that I have
dozens of signs designed and was hoping that I didn't have to redo all of
them.

I didn't completely read the last article that Mary had sent until now. At
the end of the article it explains the old WordArt was a stand-alone program
and the new one isn't. It goes on to say that the new one can't convert all
earlier WordArt objects with total fidelity. I'm not sure what it means by
"total fidelity" but that sounds like I may be screwed.

I guess I don't understand why it's a problem
to insert a new text box if you are editing the
text anyway.

At least you have a way to correct the issue
if you choose to do so.

I just now created a publication in Publisher 95, opened it in 2007 and the
WordArt worked fine.

You can use the old WordArt by going to Insert, Object, scroll down to Microsoft
WordArt 3.2.

I am assuming John's explanation is correct.
