WordArt text des not display in document

I cannot display WordArt text graphics in a document; only see empty box with
handles that does not change when double clicking on it. Can see WorArt text
only in print preview or in printed document.

Under Tools > Options > View make sure you do not have "Picture place
holders" ticked under the "show" section.
